Heart Of The Midwest

While taking a break from homework, I did some work on my website, and came up with a name for it. I liked the sound of "Heart Of The Midwest", because I grew up in the Midwest, and now currently living in the midwest, after moving back after serving twelve years in the military .The Midwest has been nothing but good to me, as far as that shining light of having a bright future, and will always be considered home.

One of my favorite weekend getaway spots

My favorite weekend getaway spot, while living in Hawaii. Great place to meditate. I couldn't visit Hilo side of the Big Island, and not visit Coconut Island. This is a great spot to relax, barbecue, walk, yoga, or release your inner child by diving off one of the platforms into the water.

Another thing i loved about Hilo side are the sound of Coqui frogs, which I miss a lot! The sound of the Coqui frog gives me peace, and that overall feeling of being in Hilo, Hawaii.

I have had the pleasure of visiting Coconut Island during Hilo To Volcano Ultra Marathon, Hilo Marathon, and a birthday weekend getaway from Oahu. This small island is what it is, and if you enjoy peace, it is actually that with Queen Liliuokalani Gardens, and park outside to give you extra things to catch your eye outside of Coconut Island.

Are We That Blind?

                                Seeing Donald Trump run for president makes it seem as though anyone can run for president. I have yet to see Donald Trump do a speech, and actually tell us how he plans to “Make America Great” as he says. Every time I just happen to catch him on television, he is always insulting someone whether a political figure, veteran, minorities, or even a reporter with a disability. Not to mention the man even claimed to not know about the Ku Klux Klan, after former leader David Duke endorsed him, but that’s a whole different topic. I mean really? who doesn’t know about the Ku Klux Klan? Is this seriously the man that will possibly be our next President of the United States? Are you kidding me? This seriously has to be a bad dream! How can a man that promotes so much hatred, racism, and no agenda to back up his words be so far in getting elected? Are we that blind, or are Donald Trump’s views a reflection of what the average American thinks deep down?

What simply gets old to me is seeing him insult other people, and countries, which according to “The New York Times” he has insulted a total of 258 on Twitter alone. A few of those names include President Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, Marco Rubio, Ted Cruz, Ben Carson, and Bernie Sanders. One thing that simply got old very quick was turning my television channel, and seeing Donald Trump’s attacking words on someone who chose not to support him. It’s very sick to see, and can you imagine someone like that as our President of the United States.   

Donald Trump has insulted military veterans. As a veteran myself; serving 12 years in the military his insults really boil my blood, such as his claim to have sacrificed as much as fallen soldiers. In the interview Donald Trump compared his business success to those who have sacrificed their lives in battle for their country, but that’s not all! How can we not forget insults on John McCain, saying that “He’s not a war hero because he was captured. I like people that weren’t captured”.  Just imagine what it would be like having Donald Trump as our President of the United States.

For me as an African American male, I don’t feel very comfortable with the possibility of having someone like this as our next President of the United States. From my view this man puts minorities in a whole different category compared to Caucasians, and it stinks! Donald Trump doesn’t even know how to address minorities; so how does he expect to help minorities. All minorities are to Donald Trump, are just votes to get him into office, and he’ll make any promise to get that minority vote.

One thing that really dropped my jaw is when Donald Trump mocked a New York Times reporter that suffers from a chronic condition. That was flat out, not cool, and not very leader like! What’s sad, is that these disrespects are blatant, and viral, but yet there are still many that support Donald Trump, after these antics. All I can really say is that, if this man gets elected as President of the United States, God help us all, because we will need it!

Define low-risk and high-risk pregnancies. What is the significance of infant birth weight in terms of the child’s future health?

According to chapter 15; page 484 of Understanding Nutrition; low-risk, and high-risk pregnancy is defined as followed 

Low-risk pregnancy - A pregnancy characterized by factors that make it likely the birth will be normal and the infant healthy

High-risk pregnancy - A pregnancy characterized by risk factors that make it likely the birth will be surrounded by problems such as premature delivery, difficult birth, restricted growth, birth defects, and early infanct death 

According to chapter 15; page 485 of Understanding Nutrition 13e; Low-birthweight infants are more likely to experience complications during delivery than normal-weight babies. They also have a statistically greater chance of having physical and mental birth defects, becoming ill, and dying early in life. Of infants who die before their first birthdays, about two-thirds were low-birthweight newborns. Very-low-birthweight infants (31/2 pounds or less) struggle not only for their immediate physical health and survival, but for their future cognitive development and abilities as well

Bonus information

According to chapter 15; page 484 of Understanding Nutrition 13e; A high-risk pregnancy is likely to produce an infant with low birthweight. Low-birthweight infants, defined as infants who weigh 5 1/2 pounds or less, are classified according to their gestational age. Preterm infants are born before they are fully developed; they are often underweight and have trouble breathing because their lungs are immature. Preterm infants may be small, but if their size and weight are appropriate for their gestational age, they can catch up in growth given adequate nutrition support. In contrast, small- for-gestational- age infants have suffered growth failure in the uterus and do not catch up as well. For the most part, survival improves with increased gestational age and birthweight.
