Describe the perceptual, cognitive, and language skills an infant will acquire in the first 2 years of life.

In the first two years, perceptual development involves learning the affordances of objects, the constancy of objects, and depth perception. Cognitive development includes the beginning of understanding of categories, object permanence, memory skills, and cause-and-effect reasoning. Language development includes babbling, holophrastic speech, two-word speech, and larger combinations of words

Six Stages of Sensorimotor Intelligence

Six Stages of Sensorimotor Intelligence!
According to Jean Piaget, a Swiss scientist, there are six stages of sensorimotor intelligence. However, Piaget categorizes them into 3 categories. Stage 1 and 2 are primary circular reactions, stage 3 and 4 are secondary circular reactions, and stage 5 and 6 are tertiary circular reactions.

Primary Circular Reactions: infants own body

Stage 1: From birth to 1 month. This stage consists of reflexes. Examples are sucking, grasping, staring, and listening.

Stage 2: From 1 to 4 months. The first acquired adaptations, which means adapting their reflexes to the environment. Children acquire new behaviors. Examples are sucking a pacifier differently than a nipple or grabbing a bottle to suck.

Secondary Circular Reactions: responses towards objects and other people

Stage 3: From 4 to 8 months. An awareness of things around them and responding to people and objects. Examples are clapping hands when mother says “patty-cake” or by kicking a child is able to make the mobile of her crib bounce.

Stage 4: From 8 to 12 months. New adaptations and anticipation break through. The child develops the ability to coordinate previously unrelated behaviors to achieve some desired end, they have acquired the concept of object permanence, their behavior is goal directed, and the child has the ability to use signs to anticipate events. Examples would be the child bringing his or her coat to the mother after seeing her put hers on or putting the mother’s hands together to get her to starts playing patty-cake.

Tertiary Circular Reactions: most creative, first with actions and then with ideas and symbolic representation.

Stage 5: From 12 to 18 months. New means through active experimentation, they become “little scientists.”  Examples are flushing items down the toilet or squeezing the toothpaste out of the tube.

Stage 6: From 18 to 24 months. The child finding new means through mental combinations also known as the trial and error stage. Examples would include eating with a spoon or playing pretend.

eBay

One hundred, and twenty four items sold on eBay; I'm also a top rated seller on their site. So far I've made One thousand, five hundred and fifty dollars total. Maybe I can double that before this year ends! That's a goal! I picked up on this hobby, after moving to Chicago from Hawaii. My now ex girlfriend was the one who got me interested in selling. I posted an item in my apartment that I never really used, and sold it. Once I made my first sell; the new love for selling began. I love selling my unused things; along with going to thrift stores, and purchasing things to sell. It's a great way to make extra money while going to school. I love it!

Histrionic Personality Disorder

Thomas Gouard
Psychology 213

Disorder: Histrionic Personality Disorder; a disorder characterized by a long-standing pattern of attention seeking behavior and extreme emotionality. Someone with histrionic personality disorder wants to be the center of attention in any group of people, and feel uncomfortable when they are not.  While often lively, interesting and sometimes dramatic, they have difficulty when people aren’t focused exclusively on them. People with this disorder may be perceived as being shallow, and may engage in sexually seductive or provocative behavior to draw attention to themselves.

Why I chose it: What interested me about this disorder are the symptoms of it, and the many celebrities that were, and are currently in the spotlight currently that show specific symptoms of it: Is uncomfortable in situations in which he or she is not the center of attention; Considers relationships to be more intimate than they actually are; Displays rapidly shifting and shallow expression of emotions, and Interaction with others is often characterized by inappropriate sexually seductive or provocative behavior.  As for celebrities with this disorder a few of my favorites are Marilyn Monroe, Kim Kardashian, Kanye West, and Richard Simmons; a very good example would be Regina Mackenzie George; a character portrayed by Rachel McAdams in the movie “Mean Girls”. These few are the most well-known that show symptoms of Histrionic Personality Disorder.  Might sound like the Narcissistic Personality Disorder, but the two are different. Key different. Key Difference: Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD) a medical disorder in which people exhibit unstable and intensive emotions. The patient experiences an inflated sense of self-importance and superiority compared to others. Histrionic Personality Disorder (HPD) is a mental disorder in which people are more emotionally vulnerable and require constant approval from their peers. They are also associated with inappropriately seductive, dramatic, flirtatious, exaggeration, manipulative and self- indulgence behavior.

Diagnostic Criteria: According to the DSM-V; the diagnostic criteria for Histrionic Personality Disorder is a pervasive pattern of excessive emotionality and attention seeking, beginning by early adult-hood and present in a variety of contexts, as indicated by five (or more) of the following:
1. Is uncomfortable in situations in which he or she is not the center of attention.
2. Interaction with others is often characterized by inappropriate sexually seductive or provocative behavior.
3. Displays rapidly shifting and shallow expression of emotions.
4. Consistently uses physical appearance to draw attention of emotions.
5. Has a style of speech that is excessively impressionistic and lacking in detail.
6. Shows self-dramatization, theatricality, and exaggerated expression of emotion.
7. Is suggestible (i.e., easily influenced by others or circumstances).
8. Considers relationships to be more intimate than they actually are.

Gender-Related Diagnostic Issues: In clinical settings, this disorder has been diagnosed more frequently in females; however, the sex ratio is not significantly different from the sex ratio of females within the perspective clinical setting. In contrast, some studies using structured assessments report similar prevalence rates among males and females.

Culture-Related Diagnostic Issues: Norms for interpersonal behavior, personal appearance, and emotional expressiveness vary widely across cultures, genders, and age groups. Before considering the various traits (e.g., emotionality, seductiveness, dramatic interpersonal style, novelty seeking, sociability, charm, impressionability, a tendency to somatization) to be evidence of histrionic personality disorder, it is important to evaluate whether they cause clinically significant impairment or distress.

Adult Psychological Disorder

Doing a paper in my psychology class on an adult psychological disorder. I chose four, and eventually will narrow it down to one. So far I picked out Dysthymia, Social Phobia, Historonic Personality Disorder, and Agoraphobia. Reading about them all I like Historonic Personality Disorder, and Agoraphobia. I'm in a debate between those two, and going to go with the more interesting one off of what information I find on Google.

Agoraphobia is an anxiety disorder characterized by anxiety symptoms in reaction to situations where the sufferer perceives the environment to be dangerous, uncomfortable, or unsafe.

Histrionic personality disorder is characterized by a long-standing pattern of attention seeking behavior and extreme emotionality. Someone with histrionic personality disorder wants to be the center of attention in any group of people, and feel uncomfortable when they are not.

Dysthymia is a chronic disorder, sufferers may experience symptoms for many years before it is diagnosed, if diagnosis occurs at all. As a result, they may believe that depression is a part of their character, so they may not even discuss their symptoms with doctors, family members, or friends.

Social anxiety disorder, also called social phobia, is an anxiety disorder in which a person has an excessive and unreasonable fear of social situations. Anxiety (intense nervousness) and self-consciousness arise from a fear of being closely watched, judged, and criticized by others.

Histrionic Personality Disorder

The disorder I chose for my paper in psychology is "Histrionic Personality Disorder".
Histrionic Personality Disorder (HPD) - The DSM Criteria. Is uncomfortable in situations in which he or she is not the center of attention. Interaction with others is often characterized by inappropriate sexually seductive or provocative behavior. Displays rapidly shifting and shallow expression of emotions.

A few celebrities with this are Kim Kardashian, Kanye West, Richard Simmons, Marilyn Monroe.

Perfect example of this personality disorder is Regina George from the movie "Mean Girls".

Might sound like the Narcissistic Personality Disorder, but the two are different. Key Difference: Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD) is a medical disorder in which people exhibit unstable and intensive emotions. The patient experiences an inflated sense of self-importance and superiority compared to others. Histrionic Personality Disorder (HPD) is a mental disorder in which people are more emotionally vulnerable and require constant approval from their peers. They are also associated with inappropriately seductive, dramatic, flirtatious, exaggeration, manipulative and self-indulgence behavior.

SOAS Racing gear

Oh boy! I see why i get stares from women when i wear these. I'm not going to lie i do love the attention, because i don't get it often. My butt sticks out in these, seriously!

Pride North

For my cycling route today, I wanted to ride Lakeview-Boystown route which takes me through Lakeview, Uptown, and back to Edgewater neighborhood. I wanted to ride that route to check out the parade, but figured that it was over by the time I started my ride. I ended up looking "Pride North" up, so I altered my route, and headed up north to CTA Morse. This event was right outside of CTA Morse, so it was easy to find. Easy because I live very close; I'm only a little over a mile away from Rogers Park

Dispense your karma

"Pub 626" in Rogers Park

Didn't have much interaction with anyone;just the guys at the front entrance, which were friendly.  I pretty much stopped in; took pictures, and left to finish my ride. Picked up a pride bracelet, and pin before entering, and ended up wearing it while riding. I would definitely be open to coming to this event while not being on a workout; I seen quite a few interesting restaurants in the area.

Fun in the Nursery
